Dinner at Cheelin
Hello Members and Friends,
The Halifax Association of Vegetarians will host a dinner on Sunday, November 26th, 6 pm at the Cheelin Restaurant in the Brewery Market, 1496 Lower Water St. in Halifax.
Cheelin does not use msg, and sources it's ingredients from local suppliers whenever possible.
Cost is $18 plus tax and gratuity. Coffee or tea is included, but other drinks are additional. Children, age 15 and under, eat for 1/2 price.

The menu follows, although chef Fanny Chen offers to replace or add dishes if you do not see your favourite.
Appetizers: Spring roll, Dumpling, Cucumber salad
Moo Shu Vegetables (with pancake)
Main dishes: Yuxiang Eggplant, Snow Peas with Garlic Sauce, Crispy Tofu with Sweet Sauce, Spicy Green Bean, Mapo Tofu Potato with Eggplant in Garlic sauce, Firm Tofu with Garlic Greens, Saturday Noodles.

DINNER AT MEXICO LINDO
Our next dinner will be a vegetarian/vegan buffet, 6 PM on Wed. September 27th at Mexico Lindo (3635 Dutch Village Road).
This is a unique buffet of authentic Mexican cuisine and is created for us, thus the need for the reservations. It is fabulous and much less expensive than a trip to Mexico.
Members and non-members are welcome but reservations are required at halifaxvegetarians@gmail.com

In a bed of greens sliced mango, avocado, tomato, carrots and pumpkin seeds.
POBLANO CREAM SOUP
Creamy soup made with poblano peppers and corn nibbles.
GREEN CHILAQUILES
Tortilla chips cooked in tomatillo salsa, topped with melted cheese, cilantro, onion and sour cream.

Dinner at The Wooden Monkey
The Wooden Monkey Dartmouth will be hosting a dinner on Sunday August 27th at 6 pm.
1st Course
Raw Taco - nappa wrapped spicy sundried tomato walnut mushroom ‘meat’, fresh salsa, pine nut ‘sour cream’, guacamole
2nd Course
Roasted Chickpea Salad
chickpeas, organic brown rice, peppers, almonds, raisins, seeds, daikon, dulse, green onions, tahini umeboshi dressing, organic blue corn chips
3rd Course
1⁄2 Lentil Burger
lentils, carrots, miso, garlic, onions, daikon, oats, served on a 5-organic grain pita with lettuce, tomato & a maple mustard dressing, served with roasties (oven baked version of fries)
Dessert
Chocolate Tofu Pie Bites
Our signature dish! Non-dairy chocolate & silken tofu create a wonderful densely smooth cheesecake ‘style’ dessert with an almond walnut crust, served family style

Dinner at Lui's Formosa
I am pleased to announce that we will be hosting a dinner at Lui's Formosa Gift and Tea House at 6 pm. on Saturday, June 3rd. Located at 278 Wyse Road (corner of Albro Lake Road) in Dartmouth, this is one of the few completely vegetarian cafes/restaurants in the HRM.
The dinner (which is vegan friendly) is Formosan Chinese and includes a sampling of their many menu options and some not on their regular menu. Based on previous visits, you should arrive hungry to this very unique eatery.

Mexico Lindo buffet
The Halifax Association of Vegetarians are hosting a vegetarian/vegan buffet, 6 PM on Tuesday, April 25th at Mexico Lindo (3635 Dutch Village Road). We return to Mexico Lindo each year because this unique buffet of authentic Mexican cuisine is fabulous and much less expensive than a trip to Mexico.

Dinner at Just Spring Roll
Just Spring Roll, first level of Park Lane on
Spring Garden Road, will host a dinner on Sunday, March 26, at 5:30 pm. The menu
will include Mango Juice, Vietnamese Tofu salad , Spring Rolls, Tofu with
lemon-grass & ginger, Tofu curry, Stir-fried vegetables, House Fried rice,
Steam rice, Pad Thai, Jasmin tea / Coffee. With the exception of one item, this
dinner is completely vegan.

Pizza at Salvatores
Our first dinner of 2017 will be held on Monday, February 27th, 6 - 8 pm.
Hosted by Salvatore's Pizza (5541 Young Street in Hydrostone), it is a members only dinner, but no need to miss it, as you can renew or obtain a membership at the dinner.
No speaker for this dinner, as we will have a short Annual General Meeting, to review the past year and discuss our plans for 2017.
All 10 of Salvatore's vegetarian/vegan pizzas will be available for sampling and will include salad. Chris, the owner, has agreed to add our choice of the best vegan pizza to his menu, and note that it is the choice of the Halifax Association of Vegetarians.
Our cost is $16 each, plus beverages, tax and gratuity (half price for children). Reserve now at halifaxvegetarians@gmail.com and note if you are vegan.
